Polymer Clay Babies

Most of my miniature babies begin as a small piece of polymer clay and a simple idea. From there they slowly come to life through careful hand sculpting. Each baby is created freehand, shaped primarily with my hands and only occasionally with sculpting tools to refine delicate details.

These miniature newborns usually begin at around four inches in length and are sculpted in a variety of natural sleeping and resting poses. Because they are sculpted without molds, every baby develops its own personality and expression as the work progresses. No two are ever the same, making each piece truly one-of-a-kind.

Some babies are created as full sculpts, while others are partial sculpts. In partial sculpts, the head and limbs are sculpted by hand while the body is made from soft fabric in a matching skin tone. These babies are carefully weighted with fine glass granules and filled with soft Polyfill, allowing them to feel wonderfully natural and easy to dress and pose.

Each baby is individually hand painted and finished with great attention to realism. They may be presented with tiny accessories such as blankets, baskets, or hanging pods that complement the character of the sculpture.

My larger sculptures may use armature for support, but the smaller babies are sculpted entirely freehand. Because I work without molds, even I never know exactly how each baby will look until the sculpture begins to emerge.

Many of my miniature babies later become the inspiration for larger silicone or reborn creations. In this way, these tiny sculptures often represent the very beginning of a much larger artistic process.

Every baby is an original prototype and is supplied with a signed Certificate of Authenticity.
