A Guide for New Pom Parents
Gentle Wisdom for Welcoming Your Cupidtown Pomeranian
Whether you’ve welcomed a young puppy, older puppy, or adult Pom from Cupidtown, one thing is certain: your new companion has been raised with care, intention, and love. You’ve chosen wisely-from a breeder with over 40 years of dedication, known for breeding soundness, temperament, and the timeless beauty of doll-faced Pomeranians. I am also the author of two dog reference books, and I stand behind every Pom I’ve bred.
Note: I only guarantee puppies or adult dogs that I have bred myself. If a dog was brought in for my breeding program, I cannot offer the same assurance-I know my bloodlines intimately, and I trust what I’ve raised.
Think Like a Puppy Thinks
Your puppy’s behavior may differ from what you’ve seen here. They’ve grown up in a structured, nurturing environment with routines designed for their wellbeing. Your home is new, and adjustment takes time.
Young Puppies (9 Weeks)
·Puppy pen required: Safety first. Keep your puppy confined when unsupervised.
·Expect crying: The first few nights may be emotional. Stay firm-this boundary builds trust.
··  Puppy-proof your space: Watch for stairs, cords, gaps, and tight spaces. One step can break a leg.
··  House training: Use puppy pads and guide them gently.
··  No visitors: Let your puppy settle before introducing new people or places.
··  Vaccination caution: Avoid parks or areas with other dogs until fully vaccinated plus two weeks.
··  Supervise children: Always.
Older Puppies & Adult Dogs
These dogs know the difference. They’ve lived routines, built trust, and now face a new world. Adjustment may take longer.
·Patience is key: Some Poms bond instantly. Others need time.
·Use an exercise pen: Limit space to reduce overwhelm.
·Offer comfort: Soft voice, gentle gestures, and tasty titbits-liverwurst paste on a cracker works wonders.
·Let them come to you: Don’t crowd or rush introductions.
Safety in the Garden
Once settled, outdoor play is wonderful-but only if safe.
·Secure fencing: No gaps, no escape routes, no access under the house.
·Avoid rose bushes: Thorns can cause serious eye injuries.
·Check for toxic plants: Google is your friend-protect your Pom.
·Beware of pools, poisons, and pests: Insecticides, snail bait, rat poison, and wasps are deadly.
·Wildlife alert: In rural areas, protect against snakes, bull ants, and birds of prey.
Weather Warnings
Pomeranians are sensitive to extremes.
·Heat kills: Over 28°C? Keep them inside with air conditioning.
·Cold bites: Under 10°C? Keep them warm and cozy.
·Never leave in cars: Not even for a moment.

Boundaries, Leadership & Loving Discipline
Some puppies, like children, are simply a handful-it’s just their personality. I raised three children myself, and each one was different. What worked was consistency, clarity, and love. Puppies are no different.
Dogs are pack animals. Whether you have one Pom or many, you must be the Alpha pack leader. Leadership isn’t harsh-it’s consistent, calm, and clear. Boundaries are love in action.

·How to Set Loving Limits for Your Pomeranian
·Some puppies, like children, are naturally cheeky-it’s just their personality. I raised three children myself, and each one was different. What worked was consistency, clarity, and love. Puppies are no different.
·Dogs are pack animals. Whether you have one Pom or many, you must be the Alpha pack leader. That doesn’t mean being harsh-it means being calm, consistent, and clear. Boundaries are not punishment. They’re protection.
Step-by-Step Discipline for Beginners
1. No biting-ever
·Not play biting, not nibbles. Say a firm “NO” in a growly tone.
·Gently redirect: place her paw near her mouth to show it hurts.
·You can also gently pull her away by her head tuff-this mimics how mother dogs correct their pups.
2. Teach submission with love
·Cradle her on her back in your arms. Hold her gently but firmly.
·Praise her when calm. Do this often-even during grooming.
·This isn’t cruel-it’s how dogs learn trust and boundaries.
3. Spray bottle correction
·Keep a small spray bottle of water nearby.
·If she misbehaves (e.g., chewing bark), say “NO” and give a light mist to interrupt the behavior.
4. Pent-up energy release
·Zoomies after pen time are normal. Give her a safe outdoor enclosure.
·Add toys, bedding, water, and shade. Lock the gate. Try CrazySales or Temu for affordable options.
5. Supervised indoor time only
·No free roaming until she understands house rules.
·Use a larger indoor pen when needed. Puppy pens are standard in ethical breeding homes.
6. Flooring tip
·Use plastic poster sheets from Bunnings under pens-durable, washable, and affordable.
7. Feet training
·Roll up newspaper, band it, and tap your leg while saying “FEET” firmly.
·The sound interrupts and teaches her to respect your space.
·
?? Training Tips & Tools
·Lead training: Start early. A gentle companion dog can help model good behavior.
·Non-spill water bowls: Look for deep, well-style bowls with non-slip bases.
·Pee pad shredding? Use newspaper-it’s safer and more economical.
·Final Encouragement
·If you apply these steps and stay consistent, you’ll raise a Pom who respects you, trusts you, and thrives under your leadership. You’ll be the calm, confident Alpha-and your Pom will feel safe knowing who’s in charge.
·And remember: I’m always here for you.
